As a part of expansion of pharmacy education,
the Govt. Of Maharashtra decided to start the Diploma and Degree
courses in Polytechnic and Engineering college under the Directorate
of Technical Education.
In 1964 Diploma Course in Pharmacy was granted to Govt. Polytechnic,
Karad. In 1965, Degree course in Pharmacy was granted to Govt.
College of Engineering, Karad. The first Batch for Diploma with
a strength of 60 students was admitted in 1964 & first batch
for Degree with a strength of 30 students was admitted in 1965.
The Principals of College of Engineering & Govt. Polytechnic,
Karad & their members of staff showed keen interest & took
untiring efforts in developing the Pharmacy departments of Diploma & Degree
courses, till 1974. During this year Government of Maharashtra
announced establishment of college of Pharmacy, Karad, as a separate
entity.
On 9th Aug, 1974, the members of staff of the teaching & nonteaching
cadre from college of Engineering & Govt. Polytechnic, Karad,
appointed to Pharmacy branches, were transferred to the Govt. College
of Pharmacy, Karad & started to function as a separate college.
After lengthy litigations the piece of land measuring about 30,000
Sq. Mts. was acquired by Government College of Pharmacy, Karad
in 1988. After completing other formalities, the construction of
the building was started in 1992 and completed in three years.
The college shifted into new premises in 1995. Hostels for boys
and girls continue to be shared in the premises of Government College
of Engineering and Government Polytechnic.
Post graduation in Biopharmaceutics to accommodate 13 students
has started from Jan. 1996 in collaboration with Shree Hospital,
Karad
