In India had total
237 Universities. Presently there are sixteen (16) Central Universities
in the country. There are 37 Institutions that have been declared
as Deemed to be Universities by the Govt. of India as per Section
of the UGC Act, 1956.

on the basis of administering bodies, i.e., Government (State and
Central), quasi-government (Army Schools), Model Schools (Jawahar
Navodaya Vidayalas (JNVs)), Public and Private schools. Under different
boards they develop their curriculum and conduct examinations at state
and central levels. e.g. CBSE, ICSE and state education boards.
